One Codex charges for use of the Service when uploading samples in excess of free plan (Research Plan) limits or performing premium analyses. Please note that you agree to these charges when initiating a new analysis or uploading a sample using the graphical web uploader, our command line client, application programming interface (API), or through any other means.

What is a Sample? A Sample is defined as a single FASTA or de-multiplexed FASTQ file that is uploaded to the Service, optionally compressed. Per your plan details, you will be charged a per sample fee for each sample uploaded in excess of any base samples provided. We reserve the right to charge an overage fee for samples >5GB in size. Unsuccessful uploads (i.e., the upload did not complete) will not be charged, but all samples successfully uploaded will be charged, regardless of whether they are later deleted from the Service. The per-sample fee includes storage of your sequencing data for up to 1 calendar year, during which time new analyses may be performed and you may request access to a backup copy of your data. After this period, your data may be archived or an access fee may be levied.

What is a Premium Analysis? By default, we perform one or more analyses on your uploaded samples (e.g., metagenomic classification using the One Codex Database, bacterial typing via MLST). These — and many other analyses on the Service — are provided for free and the associated compute and data storage costs are covered by the per-sample fee. In addition to these free or basic analyses, the Service also offers Premium Analyses that incur additional charges. Prices for all premium analyses are listed in the Run Analyses interface. Unless configured at your request, we will not automatically run any premium analyses following upload of samples to the Service.
